Ballast Fouling in Railway Engineering

Ballast fouling is one of a major cause of track deterioration in many countries over the
world. Ballast fouling is the progressive intrusion of various types of fine particles into
ballast layer that over time, fills ballast voids. This is the accumulation of material
that resides within the ballast layer. The ballast deteriorates by fracturing into smaller
pieces, losing its sharp edges and becoming contaminated with dirt and mud rising from
below the ballast.

Hereby, I would like to share the materials from the presentation that group 2 has presented about Ballast Fouling before. Hope it can come in handy for references related to Rail track Failure.

The contents consist of:
- INTRODUCTION TO BALLAST
- FOULED BALLAST & CAUSES
- THE CONSEQUENCES MADE BY FOULED BALLAST
- DRAINAGE RELATED TO BALLAST
- THE TREATMENT AND PREVENTION
- FOULING MAINTENANCE
- CONCLUSION
